The Guide

Jay

My name is Jay, Owner and Guide of Blackwood Hiking & Camping Co. I am an Environmental Scientist and Landcare Manager of 17 years in Western Australia. In my early years of my career as a young adult, I took the opportunity to contract as a Hiking Instructor for schools in Perth, it was a great time, and now with my experience and knowledge of Environmental Science and the Natural world I want to share it in a safe and educational way out in nature. I plan to build a blog and video our experience so bookmark this page and join our socials.

Acknowledgement of Country and Culture

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we walk, camp, and gather—the Wardandi and Bibbulman Peoples of the Noongar Nation.

We pay our deepest respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples who continue to care for Boodja—Country—with strength, knowledge, and spirit.

We honour the enduring connection that Noongar people have to this land, its waterways, its sky, and its seasons, and we walk humbly in their footsteps.

As we explore the forests, hills, and trails around Balingup, we acknowledge that this land was never ceded—it always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
